Cobbett & Cotton has been serving Burnaby and all of Greater Vancouver for over 60 years in the areas of ICBC injury claims, real estate, wills and estates, corporate and commercial work, as well as estate litigation and family law matters. JEFF KUHL
Jeff Kuhl is the principal of Cobbett & Cotton. He graduated from law school at the University of Manitoba in 1996 and practises primarily in the areas of private lending, wills, and estates.   He has also acted on numerous corporate, commercial and franchise matters. Jeff credits his wife, colleagues, dynamic staff, and business partners with the growth and success of the firm’s practice. When not at the office, you will find Jeff spending time with his family, on a back country ski tour or riding his motorcycle.

BOB HALIFAX
Bob works primarily on real estate and banking issues, small property development projects, including subdivisions and strata developments. Bob has taught conveyancing courses with Continuing Legal Education; contributing to their Conveyancing Desk Book, led “Buying and Selling Real Estate” classes for the Burnaby School Board and lectured in Professional Legal Training Courses on the conveyance process. He has led information sessions for bankers and real estate agents.

Bob graduated from UBC Law School and was called to the BC Bar in 1984. He has practiced law at Cobbett & Cotton since 2002. He has been long-time runner, having completed over a dozen marathons and half-marathons and the Knee-Knackering Run. He also inherited his father’s curling gene. He has been a member of the Gay and Lesbian Business Association and was active in the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and the BC Student Leadership Conference Association over the years.

RICHARD DOUBLE
Richard practices in the areas of corporate/commercial law, wills and estates, the latter being of his particular interest. Before joining Cobbett & Cotton he was a Wills & Trusts Consultant with a national trust company. Mr. Double has been a member of the Estate Planning Council of Vancouver since 1997.

He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Wilfred Laurier University, his Master of Arts from Carleton University’s Institute of Soviet and East European Studies, and his Bachelor of Law from the University of Ottawa. Richard was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1994 and joined Cobbett & Cotton in 1999. He is otherwise kept busy being a husband and father and as time allows, participates in hiking, biking, and running.

MICHAEL LAM
Michael practices real estate law assisting clients with buying and selling residential and commercial real estate and obtaining mortgage financing from lenders. Michael also assists clients with non-family law agreements such as cohabitation agreements, marriage agreements and separation agreements. Before joining Cobbett & Cotton, he practiced primarily in family law with a particular focus on high-net worth divorce and high conflict family law matters, civil litigation, real estate and wills and estates.

Michael obtained his Bachelor of Arts from UBC, a Master of Arts from U of T, a Juris Doctor from Queen’s University and was called to the bar in both Ontario and British Columbia in 2015. When he is not in the office, Michael is kept busy by his young family, enjoys experimenting in the kitchen and supporting his favorite soccer team, Arsenal FC, from afar. Michael is fluent in Cantonese.

SAM GILL
Sam Gill is an associate in Cobbett & Cotton’s real estate financing and private lending group. His practice focuses on representing private lenders on private lending transactions secured by mortgages against residential and commercial properties. Before joining Cobbett & Cotton, Sam had a general solicitor practice, practicing in the areas of wills and estates, real estate and corporate and commercial law.

Born and raised in British Columbia, Sam obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Simon Fraser University before deciding to move down under and obtained his Juris Doctor from Bond University in Gold Coast, Australia. In his spare time, Sam enjoys playing soccer and more recently has moved toward coaching the youth in the community. Sam is an avid traveller and enjoys trying out all the different cuisines Vancouver has to offer.

BOBBY YE

Bobby’s practice focuses on corporate commercial law and commercial real estate.  Before joining Cobbett & Cotton, Bobby practiced corporate commercial law at a boutique corporate law firm in North Vancouver, where he gained tremendous experience by leading the firm’s corporate group. Bobby completed both his law degree and his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Alberta. He was called to the bar in Alberta in 2020 and the bar in British Columbia in 2021.

Bobby is proud to be part of the Cobbett & Cotton legal team and looks forward to serving clients by offering them practical solutions to their legal problems. Bobby is able to assist in both English and Mandarin.

MARK WESTWOOD
Mark practices in the area of wills and estates. He values the opportunity to help clients make informed decisions about estate planning and administration. Before joining Cobbett & Cotton, he articled with a sole practitioner in the field and developed a collaborative approach that accounts for clients’ goals and related interests. Mark is committed to helping clients navigate legal matters in an understandable way.

Mark graduated from the University of Victoria, Faculty of Law. During law school, he gained administrative decision-making experience with two summers as an officer at the Ministry of Labour’s Employment Standards Branch. He studied English at Simon Fraser University and enjoys discussing the performing arts. Outside of work, he enjoys walking and hiking adventures around BC, especially along the coastline.

KEVIN WONG
Kevin is an associate in Cobbett & Cotton’s real estate law team. His practice focuses in buying and selling residential and commercial real estate and obtaining mortgage financing from lenders. Prior to joining Cobbett & Cotton, Kevin worked at a national firm as a litigation lawyer where he managed a busy practice where he gained experience in the Supreme Court, Provincial Court and Civil Resolution Tribunal of British Columbia.

Kevin completed his law degree at the University of Leicester and his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at Simon Fraser University. He was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 2020. Out of office, he enjoys going to the gym, playing dodgeball, and watching hockey. You can also find him volunteering around the community at events such a Red Bull 400 or the BMO marathon.
